A Spiritual Journey with Tarot

By Gary Meister, CTM
Tarot is an excellent tool for meditation to enhance spiritual growth.  With Tarot, in our readings, we each have subtly different meanings for the different cards, meanings which work well for ourselves - better than anyone else’s meanings.  In Spiritual Tarot it works the same way.  We each have our own path and we each see subtly different things in the Major Arcana to help us along that path.

With this series, I’m sharing my journey, in hopes that it might help to shine a little light on yours.  I’m using the Rider/Waite/Smith Tarot on this spiritual journey.

The Sun

WStheSun

A small boy rides bareback and nude on a white horse.  The Sun shines brightly above him.  radiating from The Sun are rays, some straight and some wavy in nature.  They symbolize both radiation and vibration.  The boy’s arms are spread wide and he has a smile on his face.  In his outspread left hand he holds a flagpole with a long red banner, signifying energy.  He wears a wreath of small sunflowers around his head.  Behind him is a gray stone wall; large sunflowers, which appear to grow behind it, show over its top.  It is a bright picture and symbolizes a level of spiritual growth where we finally see all the light, the realization of our true Spirit-Selves.

We have lived long in darkness and the road to realization has been long and hard.  But, in reaching The Sun, we can see it has all been worthwhile.  We see the Light; we ARE the Light!

At long last, for right now anyway, our goals have been reached.  There may be times when we slip back into old patterns, but now, after really experiencing the Light, we will always know we can come back.

As we leave behind all the ways in which we have deluded ourselves, through this lifetime and maybe through many lives before this one, it becomes possible for us to begin to fulfill our Soul’s purpose.  We can begin to express as the Higher-Soul we really are.  The Sun shines warm and radiant upon us and, through its radiance, we are enlightened.

This is the beginning of a whole new cycle of our life, one in which we can really shine.  This is a time when we truly learn about Love, the Spiritual Love of All-There-Is.  We are surrounded by this Great Love, as we always have been, but now we realize it – it becomes real in our lives.  We can actually feel it!  And, as a result of this, we begin to give this Universal Love to others instead of just receiving it.  And that is the ultimate purpose of life – to partake in and radiate Perfect, unconditional Love.  We no longer give love as if it were a business arrangement, expecting to receive something in return; we give Love freely and get our reward in the giving, itself.

When I meditate on The Sun, it reminds me that The Light is really there; if I stick to my spiritual path I WILL experience it.  And, it will change my life forever!

And, that’s what The Sun means to me.
